Opportunity is always where you are, never where you were. To get anywhere, you must launch out for somewhere, or you will get nowhere.Hamilton Mable said “The question for each man to settle is not what he would do if he had the means, time, influence, and education advantages, but what he will do with the things he has”. God will always give us an ability to create what we need from something that is already here.

Pedagogical features (T-P-R could be shifted to Q-T-P-R) it is important to state that:
A *qualified* teacher is not necessarily a *competent* teacher
A *competent* teacher is not necessarily an *efficient teacher*.
An *efficient* teacher is not necessarily an *effective* teacher/

There is no semantic jingle here as:
A qualified (or certificated teacher) is one with the minimum required for entry into Teaching (in Nigeria; the 3-years, post secondary NCE, irrespective of WHERE and HOW it was acquired.
A competent teacher is one who has mastered the ART and TECHNIQUES of teaching.
An efficient teacher can APPLY the ART & TECHNIQUES of teaching as LEARNED.

An effective teacher is one who APPLIES the ART & TECHNIQUES of teaching SO CREATIVELY that LEARNING OUTCOMES ARE MAXIMIZED.

The following recommendations to re-brand your products and services can be helpful.Re-equip your school with necessary tools.Re-train your staff and acquaint the parents with latest trends in education and happening in your school.Re-organization of staff if necessaryRelate well with the “clients” and make them more important than before. They are the reason for your earning and living.Retain your integrity and shun fraudulent acts that can tarnish your image and especially the image of the school.Customize your products and services (if you haven’t  done so)Invest in literature and books especially on personality development, administrative competencies and intelligence and steps on how to be passionate with your job.Reduce or stop frivolous spending and plan a better life but carry along your family member.Reposition your priority and get more serious and committed to your work. The time has come to re-engineer our psyche, thoughts towards rebranding and re-profiling ourselves and taking our school to the eldorado. It is possible; we CAN, by our attitude, thoughts, action, inaction and mannerism.  Remember the word ATTITUDE has 100% mark allocation.A = 1T = 20T = 20I = 9T = 20U = 21D = 4E = 5Total 100%. Not even 99% attitude can do it, even money as good as it is, has 72 mark allocation. You can work out Salary and Hardwork, they can’t be 100%. It therefore means that, it is only the right ATTITUDE to work by all concerned that can take the school to the promised land.
On the other side of the spectrum, we have to identify the childhood for those adults who have poor self-esteem. These children were often criticized harshly, were yelled at or beaten, and were not given little attention by those they were closest to.    They were ridiculed and even teased as they experience/ failures in their young lives.    They were made to feel they had to be perfect in order to be valued and associated failure in situations as a failure of their whole selves.    Self-esteem plays a role in almost everything we do. People with high self-esteem do better in school and find it easier to make friends. They tend to have better relationships with peers and adults, feel happier, find it easier to deal with mistakes, disappointments, and failures and are more likely to strike with something until they succeed. It takes some work, but it is a skill you will have for life.

HOW TO BUILD SELF-ESTEEM IN TEACHER    Our self-esteem develops and evolves throughout our lives as we build an image of ourselves through our experiences with different people and activities.    Experiences during our childhood play a particularly large role in the shaping of our basic self-esteem.    When we were growing up, our successes and failures and how we were treated by the members of our immediate family by our teachers, Pastors, Imams, Uncles and by our peers, all contributed to the creation of our basic self-esteem.    Remember, a graduate who has healthy self-esteem was given this gift in childhood. This could have been done in many ways. Probably, one of the most important is being praised for accomplishments. Children who are talked to respectfully and listened to also contribute to health self-esteem in adulthood. These children were hugged often and given attention and experiences in schools or sporting activities.
So if self-esteem is not quite the same thing as confidence, then what is it? The word “esteem” comes from a Latin word which means to “Estimate”. So, self esteem is how you estimate yourself.
Description of Self-Esteem    Some people think that self-esteem means confidence and ofcourse confidence is into it but, it is rather more than that. The fact is that, there are many number of apparently confident people who can do marvelous things but who have poor self-esteem.    Naturally, teachers and caregivers are expected to have self esteem but ironically, the curriculum preparation of teachers do not have iota of self-esteem scheme. Many people in the public eye, fall into these category. Actors and comedians and singers, in particular, can seem to glow with assurance on stage, and yet off-stage, many of them feel desperately insecure.    Indeed, individuals can be beautifully attractive and world famous, they may even look perfect yet inside them, they find it difficult to value themselves. Think of the late Princess of Wales and Marilyn Maonroe and you would all accept that public adulation is no guarantee of self belief.

To do that, (estimate yourself), you need to ask yourself certain questions like the following:Do I like myselfDo I think I am a good human beingAm I someone deserving of loveDo I deserve happinessDo I really feel – both in my mind and deep in my guts, that is, am I an OK person?    As teachers and caregivers, ask yourself the following questions:-Am I a professional teacher?Have I invested so much on myself to be called this name?Do I deserve respect and love from the learners, parents and the society at large? Can I compete favourably well with my colleagues in “standard schools”.    People with low self-esteem find it hard to answer ‘Yes’ to these questions. Perhaps, you are one of them, don’t despair.
ASSESSMENT OF SELF ESTEEM  Once you feel you have a good indication or you are suffering from low self-esteem, kindly go through these assessment template:Instruction: Answer T if the statement is true and answer F if the statement is false.Am I able to discuss my good points, skills ability, achievement and success with others? T/FI assert myself with someone whom I believe is violating or ignoring my right. T/FI am content with who I am, how I act and what I do in life. T/FI am not bothered by feelings of insecurity or anxiety when I meet people for the first time. T/FMy life is balanced between work, family life, social life, recreation/leisure and spiritual life. T/FI am aware of the roles I played in my family of origin and have usually been able to make these behaviour patterns work for me in my current life. T/FI am bonded with the significant others in my environment at home, work, school, at play, or in the community. T/FI am able to perform the developmental task necessary to ensure my ongoing healthy self-esteem. T/F

I am a good problem solver; my thinking is not clouded by irrational belief of fears. T/FI am willing to experience conflict, if necessary to protect my right. T/F
How to Overcome Low-Self Esteem    Remember, positive self-affirmations are healing positive scripts you give to yourself to counter your negative inner voice. They can help you free yourself from the over-independence you have on other people’s opinions, attitudes, or feelings about you and help you feel good about yourself.    There are three areas of self-affirmations you can use when next you feel and think negative:
I AM: A statement of who you are. This statement that looks ordinary can achieve a full list of I am + positive inventory of your attributes, strengths, talents and even competences like the following:I am competentI am energeticI am strongI am enthusiasticI am intelligentI am handsome/beautifulI am joyfulI am OkI am caringI am a professionalI am openI am creativeI am forgivingI am smartI am courageous.
I WILL: a statement of positive change in your life is all about the positive statement of what you want to happen.  It is a success prophecy.  Examples: I will like myself better each dayI will gain emotional strength each day I will control my temper today I will sleep easily tonightI will arouse the interest of my student today I will take care of myself todayI will manage my time better todayI will handle my salary wisely this monthI will take a risk to grow this term All these affirmative statement should be the watch words of teachers
The second therapeutic statement is…..I CAN: A statement of your potential – it shows a positive affirmation of your ability to accomplish goals. It is a statement of your belief in your power to grow, to change, and to help yourself.Examples:I can stop smokingI can take risksI can let go of fearI can gain self confidenceI can handle the learnersI can lose weightI can be positiveI can be assertiveI can control my temperI can be a winnerI can learn moreI can succeedI can gain self confidence The third therapeutic statement is
Remember esteem is like a star at night that shines brightest when it is in the darkest. It is your inner light that burns brightly and freely no matter what is happening around you. Remember, your self-esteem is perfectly intact when we are born; infact it is inherent in us; however, it often diminishes over the course of our childhood. We loose a little of it whenever we fail, make mistakes, misbehave, feel guilty, refuse to forgive, neglect our selves or do thing we are ashamed of. It is high time we became the person we want to be and treat ourself well. You deserve it.
As a re profiled teacher, your reward is on earth… Always remember this story
A STORY ON ENG. OBAFEMIEngineer Obafemi was in secondary school in the 80s in Lagos and had a Geography teacher who taught all the students with passion and his passion became contagious on his students till date for those who are still alive.  Engineer Obafemi is now the head of sales, Cambridge University Press, after several years of his graduation from secondary school ,met his Geography teacher  by providence   in Ondo state at a filling station. Obafemi quickly recognised the teacher who affected his life and greeted him with a lot of nostalgia.
The man could not easily recognise him but after a memorable pounding, the teacher recognised him.
There and there, Obafemi asked the petrol attendant to fill the tank of his former teacher and asked the teacher how he was fairing.  The Geography teacher had only his last child unemployed as at the day they met in Ondo state.Engineer Obafemi collected the C.V of the man’s last born and fixed him in one of the big Communication industries within a month of their meeting. As at today, the unemployed boy of that time, is now a Manager with MTN.
Engineer Obafemi could not directly help the Geography teacher as at the time they met but his child reaped what his father sowed … what a great compensation.
The Passionate Teacher’s reward is not actually in heaven but on this planet Earth…
PARTING GIFTThe Three Types of People you must knowA teacher shows three toys to a student and asks the student to find out the differences. All the three toys seemed to be identical in their shape, size and material.  After keen observation, the student observes holes in the toys. 1st toy has holes in the ears. 2nd toy has holes in ear and mouth. 3rd toy has only one hole in one ear.
Then, with the help of needle, the student puts the needle in the ear hole of 1st toy. The needle comes out from the other ear. In the 2nd toy, when the needle was put in ear, the needle came out of mouth. And in the 3rd toy, when the needle was put in, the needle did not come ou

Conclusion: Having taken you through the fundamentals of self esteem and affirmative statement, here are several tips on how to kick start their use:Try to stop thinking negative;Aim for accomplishment rather than perfection;View mistakes as learning;Try new things;Recognize what you can change and what you can’t;Set goals;Exercise your body and brain;Have fun;Use the 10 minutes techniques to be alone;Act confidently;Think back to when you did something new for the first time;Do something you are good at;Remember everything you have achieved;Clear out the junk;Count your blessing and name them one by one;Choose to be happy;Be passionate about your career; andReward your successes.
The import of this story:First toy represents those people around you who give an impression that they are listening to you, all your things and care for you. But they just pretend to do so. After listening, as the needle comes out from the next ear, the things you said to them, by counting on them are gone. So be careful while you are speaking to this type of people around you, who do not care for you.
Second toy represents those people who listen to you, and all your things and give an impression that they care for you. But as in the toy, the needle comes out from mouth. These people will use your things and the words you tell them against you by telling it to others and bringing out the confidential issues for their own purpose
TEACHERS, KEEP YOUR DREAM INTACTI have a friend named Josephine who owns a horse ranch in Jos. She has let me use her house to put on fund-raising events to raise money for youth at risk programs.
The last time I was there, she introduced me by saying, “I want to tell you why I let Josephine use my horse. It all goes back to a story about a young man who was the son of an itinerant horse trainer who would go from stable to stable, race track to race track, farm to farm and ranch to ranch, training horses.
As a result, the boy’s high school career was continually interrupted. When he was in a  senior school , he was asked to write in a  paper about what he wanted to be and do when he grew up.
That night he wrote a seven-page paper describing his goal of someday owning a horse ranch.
He wrote about his dream in great detail and he even drew a diagram of a 200-acre ranch, showing the location of all the buildings, the stables and the track.
Then he drew a detailed floor plan for a 4,000-square-foot house that would sit on a 200-acre dream ranch.
He put a great deal of his heart into the project and the next day he handed it over to his teacher. Two days later, he received his paper back. On the front page was a large red “F” with a note that read: See me after class.’
“The boy with the dream went to see the teacher after class and asked:
`Why did I receive an F?’
“The teacher said, This is an unrealistic dream for a young boy like you. You have no money, you come from an itinerant family, you have no resources. Therefore, owning a horse ranch requires a lot of money. You have to buy the land. You have to pay for the original breeding stock and later you’ll have to pay large study fees.. There’s no way you could ever do it.’ Then the teacher added, `If you will rewrite this paper with a more realistic goal, I will reconsider your grade.’
The boy went home and thought about it long and hard. He asked his father what he should do. His father said, `Look, son, you have to make up your own mind on this. However, I think it is a very important decision for you.’ “Finally, after sitting with it for a week, the boy turned in the same paper, making no changes at all.
He stated, “You can keep the “F” and I’ll keep my dream. Josephine then turned to the assembled group like the group you belong. I tell you this story because you are sitting in my 4,000-square-foot house in the middle of my 200-acre horse ranch. I still have that school paper framed and kept in my portfolio, he added,
“The best part of the story is that two long vacation ago, that same schoolteacher brought 30 kids to camp out on my ranch for a week.”
When the teacher was leaving, he said, “Look, Josephine, I can tell you this now:. When I was your teacher, I was something of a dream stealer. During those years, I stole a lot of kids’ dreams, though unconsciously. Fortunately, you had enough gumption not to give up on your dream”
Moral lesson: Don’t let anyone steal your dreams. Always, follow your heart, no matter what.
No Dream is too big or too small when one works hard to live it.  One should always try making dreams come true no matter what.

Thanks once again for your patience ,remember to raise your self esteem at all cost ….
