Thank you so much for having me
When I went to school it was common place for a teacher to dictate notes directly from a text book in front a set of students, making lessons dreadful and boring. There would be no talking to either the teacher or fellow pupils. For me lessons seemed to drag so much that I wasn’t engaged in the subject material. I’m proud to say that I became a teacher in spite of the education I received; I believed that I could and would do a better job. This task was made easier through the use of technology tools in the classroom.
Teachers are the driving force of education and have great power to motivate their students to learn through a specific technology. Hence, they need to be equipped for maximizing technology in education, otherwise how will they inspire their students towards the same?
So what specific technology tools will help make lessons fun and engaging?
Well, there are so much, but I will be emphasizing on video creation tech tools
Why Videos?
If you love going to the cinema to see movies like me, you will attest to the power of videos. If you see a movie today, three weeks after, you will be able to remember most of the scenes in the movie, if not all. You could relate it others
So here is a real life experience of how an instructional video was able to help a child learn from the comfort of her house and at her own pace
So last year, I decided to create a video lesson on multiplication by 9 using  the finger trick. I uploaded this video on my YouTube Channel and made it public, so anyone could see it

Few months later, my neighbour, a child in year 6, came to me with so much excitement, telling me how she learnt multiplication by 9 via my video
On YouTube, it was so surprising as I didn’t take that video seriously. This made me analyze the impact of video lessons on education
So let’s analyze it together
The fact that Chidera learnt at her own pace, she could rewind her lessons and fastward it, she could repeat her lessons over and over again, if she was absent from school when this subject was taught, she could meet up in no time with her peers…
These are the benefits of video lessons beyond the four walls of the classroom, let’s come to the classroom.
Flipping your classroom with instructional videos can do wonders in your class and make your students look forward to your classes.
Technology has changed the roles of teachers to facilitators of learning. Children become active participants in the learning process
So let’s say you want to teach your students Photosynthesis tomorrow, Monday, and on Friday last week, you gave them a video lesson *YOU* created on Photosynthesis to see and learn from. They are to come to school with their different ideas, insights and questions they have been able to put together after seeing the video.
Tell me, how do you think your class will be? Interactive or one-way communication?
The beauty of it all is the fact that you will have so much to learn as a teacher from their different points of view. That is how the classroom experience should be

Are there not YouTube videos online why do I need to create mine? I could download and use it to teach🤷‍♀
Let me tell you why that won’t be sufficient
1. For learning to take place, learners MUST be able to relate with what is being taught.
When you download foreign content for your learners, not all of them might hear the accent of the foreign instructor
This is a huge barrier to learning.

2. Another point is, there is no flexibility.
You as a teacher knows the learning difficulty of your pupils/students. Creating your lessons will help you know where to elaborate on, for your learner/learners to comprehend. But this is not the case with a random video
3. Another limitation here is that what is obtainable in Nigeria is not in another. For example, the weather condition, the fruits we grow, our native attire are different from from other countries.
Would a foreigner teach your students about our culture?
There are so much we can achieve when we are equipped with creating our content that are reflective of our culture, environment and unique experiences
So how can we create our own videos?
Is it difficult?😳
I know little or nothing when it comes to using computer? I’m not Tech-Savvy☹
Good news!!!
It’s easy😀
