I am Olusola Olumide

This evening, we shall be discussing the concept called EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE and how it affect you, those around you, the work you do and so on
Put it this way, SUSTAINABLE success requires training both our thinking ( Head – IQ) and our feeling ( Emotion – EQ)
Emotional intelligence is a cross section of interrelated emotional and social competencies, skills and facilitators that determine how effectively we understand and express ourselves, understand others and relate with them, and cope with daily demands and pressures.

When you are emotionally intelligent, it helps your motivation, dedication and commitment to task ( even your work), sensitivity when communicating flexibility, ability to prioritize and strategies to deal with procrastination and anxiety.

Emotional literacy is necessary because the brightest man/woman (people with high IQ) can misbehave at the instance of unbridled passions and unruly impulses. people with high IQ but low EQ, often become poor pilot of their private lives.
As educators, even parents we often concentrate on the grades of the pupils/students. Do we care to know the emotional state of the children?
To the educators, are you aware that, that you are an educator does not prevent you from having your own share of life challenges? If that’s true, how do you respond to these challenges and still be able to keep your head above water and still be at your best in class, with your colleagues, your boss, husband/wife/children etc?

You must learn how to deal with FAILURE, BEREAVEMENT SICKNESS, ABUSE, DISAPPOINMENTS, etc

According to HOWARD GARDNER, Emotional Intelligence has five domains and is as follows: 1. Knowing one’s emotions, I.e recognize your feelings and monitor it. 2. Managing emotions I.e have mastery of your emotions. 3. Motivating oneself I.e you are motivated always. 4. Recognizing others’ emotions I.e having people skill. 5. Handling relationship I.e interpersonal effectiveness. I hope you know that educators need these skills more than others because we deal with life others; and whatever we do or did not, say, project etc count a lot

Emotional malaise is a universal problem plaguing young and old in our modern age, which manifest in form of DEPRESSION, AGGRESSION, SUICIDE, DRUG ADDICTION, ALCOHOLISM, GRIEF, LOW SELF ESTEEM, REJECTION, BULLYING, TEENAGE PREGNANCY ETC. People nosedive into all these because they lacked the capacity to cope with setbacks in life ( they are emotionally unintelligent/illiterate). So, to become educators with cutting edge advantage, and to attract and help others, you MUST BE EMOTIONALLY INTELLIGENT.
