The rise of technology use in and outside classroom has repackaged teaching and learning for this age in innovative ways
The society today revolves around technology as the sole characteristics of this age. The 21st century educational technology has played a major role in societal changes and transformation of the educational system.
Technology is an extension of mind

Meaning of educational technologies
Mangal and Mangal (2009) are devises employed in the shape of tools, equipment and application support which help in the collection, storage, retrieval, use, transmission, manipulation and dissemination of information as accurately and efficiently as possible for the purpose of enriching the knowledge, developing communication, decision making and problem ability of the user.
Technology is critical to preparing students to live, learn and work successfully in the digital age
New technology based models of teaching and learning have the power to dramatically improve educational outcomes
Globalization and ICT applications place new demands on teachers for their teaching and research functions, especially in the light of the growing importance placed upon lifelong learning, and upon more flexible forms of education delivery.
The new technologies do not reduce the need for teachers, but changes their role in relation to the learning process and that the continuous dialogue that converts information into knowledge and understanding becomes fundamental

Classes of digital literacy
1. Digital Natives
2. Digital Immigrants
3. Digital Aliens
4. Digital Integrators

Digital Natives
Digital natives are those people that were born between 1983 and now that are born into the digital age. The Internet is their default and comfort level in terms of playing games, doing home work, searching for events, information, products and sending messages.

Digital Immigrants are approximately ages 30-60 years and are the early and late adopters of technologies. Most Immigrants were born ” before the existence of digital technology and adopted it to some extent later in their life ”

Digital Aliens are approximately ages 45-70 years and are the late adopters and laggards of technologies. They are the owners that minimally interface with the digital world ( e.g.,email, texting, searching) and are unaware of the digital opportunities

Conclusion

Everybody should be challenged to adopt the new mindset and learn the new skills for relevance and effective deployment of educational technologies; for there is no escape route.

Thank you sir
God bless you Mr. Eben

Technology can not take the place of teacher, but to enhance productivity.

It all depend on the type of technology in view. If it is portable device possessed by every body that will be easy; except the teacher lack the necessary skills.

Yes! if you as a teacher cannot adopt technology to enhance your productivity, you will in no time be fraustrated out of classroom, due to inability to flow with the current demand globally & digitally

That reminds me of how I lost an opportunity in American institution, here in South Africa… Coming as a teacher from rural area of Oyo state (Oke Ogun) I was asked to mention some apps that I could use to teach maths.😳😥

I’m highly blessed to be part of today’s lecture, thank you Mr Eben
